October 2000
Dear e-Fisherfolk:
All the leaves are brown and the sky is blue. If the Mommas and the
Pappas had lived in Arkansas this summer, that's how the song might have
gone. It's finally rained in the Ozarks! We had been enduring a drought that
lasted almost two months. That may seem like whining when you compare it to
the drought in Greece where they haven't gotten rain for over 18 months, but
it gets your attention.
Ezra just returned from a trout fishing trip to the fabled White River
and the Norfork River. He went with Fred Holden and Drew Pierce. Drew Pierce
is maybe the best fisherman Ezra has ever encountered. Fred Holden is a great
guy. Drew has years of fly fishing experience and it shows in the graceful
curve of his fully extended fly line. Fred gets the job done even if it means
holding the fly line with his teeth. We caught a lot of fish and had a great
time.
Keith had a birthday last month and immediately began falling apart. He
spent a lot of time at the dentist's office lately and doesn't want to talk
about it. Currently, he's entertaining himself by doing his favorite
crossword puzzles, the ones with clues and answers like: Clue: the free roof
cleaning was........ Ans: on the house. Clue: the bankrupt communist
was....... Ans: in the red. Clue: anger therapy is.... Ans: all the rage. In
further regression to a second or third childhood, he is reading Captain
Underpants novels by Dav Pilkey. George and Harold rock!
Recent trips have taken us to upstate New York, which looks nothing like
New York City. We'd like to thank Congressman Asa Hutchinson and his staff
for nominating Trout to represent Arkansas at State Days in Washington, D.C.
As a result, we played the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center which looks
nothing like New York City. In fact, nothing quite looks like the home of the
World Champion Yankees. Oh, it's been a tough baseball year for Keith and his
(World What?) Houston Astros. All Keith has to say about the Yankees is, "At
least it's not the Mets!"
Hope you're all well and it's raining at least occasionally in your
neighborhood.
Troutfully Yours
Keith and Ezra
