Dear e-Fisherfolk:

The leaves have dropped. The trees are sticks once again. The grass has quit asking for attention. The limestone bluffs that have supported the green hills of Arkansas are showing their old cracked faces through the woods. The bald eagle has returned to the valleys and geese fly overhead. The junkos are out in the yard and the locals say that means cold weather is coming. Of course all you have to do is get up in the morning and look out the window at the frost on the ground to tell that it's getting cold. We were in Massachusetts when we saw our first snow this year. We did a show at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA and we were given one of the nicest notes backstage. We asked for permission to share it with you. Here it is.

Dear Keith and Ezra,
Thank you very much for your wonderful recordings. You have added so much to our lives. Our annual road trips to Indiana would not have been nearly as endurable without your tunes along the way. And one of our funniest family stories happened because of you: August 1997 - Emily is 6 years old. All summer long we listened to "My World," our new favorite CD. One of the songs is "Six," which includes increasingly difficult equations which all solve to 6. On our very first visit to our church, Immanuel Lutheran in Manchester, NH, the Children's Message is about school starting and problems like 2+2=4, 6x4=24. Then Pastor Piller asks a really hard problem: "What is the square root of 36 times 2 times 21 divided by 7=X squared. Emily shouted out, very excited and with conviction: "SIX!" Pastor is shocked - "That's right! How old are you? What is your name? What grade are you in?" Mom and dad both math majors from the Univ. of Michigan, are dying from laughter in the back pew. Emily was sure that the pastor knew her favorite song - "I Believe the Answer is Six" Emily had to live with the congregation's impression that she was a mathematical genius. That seems to have mostly worn off now. thank you for all of the fun, the good times, and the laughs! Sincerely, Kathy Mange

We get letters like this from time to time in the mail or through the Internet. They are not always about child genius but funny stories that make our day. Thanks Kathy for sharing this one with us.
