April 2015

Ezra cutting wood

There are so many ways to look at Spring. Leaves are popping out. Flowers are in bloom. At night, there’s a symphony of peeper frogs singing the song of future generations of peeper frogs. The other side of the coin is that everything that can is filling the air with pollen! Acres and acres of pollen! Sneezing, wheezing, itching eyes and sore throats. It’s all how you look at it. It’s the season of getting things done! Working in the garden, mowing the lawn, collapsing in your easy chair at the end of the day and resting your sore back. Don’t exactly know what we’re saying here, but we’re glad the sun is shining and the winter cold has released its grip. In April and May, Keith and Ezra will be busy fish and birds.

Dana Louise and the Glorious Birds Cover Art

This is one of the happiest, most crowded, and possibly confusing calendars we’ve ever tried to explain. May 5th, Trout Records is proud to announce the release of a brand new CD project, Dana Louise and the Glorious Birds! In case you don’t know, Dana Louise is Ezra’s daughter. This 11-song album, recorded in the Trout House Studio, is an amazing collection of songs that paint beautiful tonal dreamscapes. Dana weaves her ideas from a myriad of musical styles with a voice that is at once forceful and softly genuine. Pre-order the CD and get it on Cinco de Mayo! The band features Dana Louise on guitar and vocals and Adams Collins on vibraphone and 5-string banjo. The rhythm section of the Glorious Birds is Keith Grimwood (bass) and Ezra Idlet (percussion) of TFIA.

Dana Louise and the Glorious Birds

That’s right, Keith and Ezra are now Birds as well as Trout! We will be touring that way over the next few months, playing both Trout shows and Glorious Birds shows. Read your calendar carefully and don’t miss any of these concerts if we are in your area! Trout dates will be on April 11, 12, 17, 24, 25, 26, and May 1, 10, 15, 16, and 30. At the Reston Community Center and The Blue Door concerts, Dana Louise and Adams will be joining us for a few songs. And in return, we will be joining Dana and Adams on all of their dates. It’s a Spring kind of thing, a song of future generations, flowers in bloom, getting things done. VIDEO

Thanks Cynthia and Tim for keeping the Trout music alive! We are working on a tour to NC early November. Do you recommend a venue in Durham? It always helps if you call or email them and request a Trout concert. We appreciate you getting in touch and for being longtime Trout friends!
