Trout Fishing's truck

Dear e-Fisherfolk:

In our newsletter last month, we told you that Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican Independence Day and a good reason to enjoy as much Mexican food as possible. WE WERE WRONG!! We’d like to thank everyone who wrote to us to correct our error and we now print this retraction so others are not misled. Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence Day, which is commemorated Sept. 16. It actually celebrates the 1862 Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla, and according to many people, is more of a U.S. holiday than a Mexican one. We still believe it’s a good enough reason to enjoy Mexican food. Actually, that’s true for almost any day.

Special Compilation CD
Many of you know our friend and fellow musician, Sara Hickman. In May, she became the Official State Musician of Texas, a title previously held by Willie Nelson. Sara has decided to use her year to help focus on Texas families being creative. She wrote to us about a special compilation CD she is creating to benefit two non-profits, Big Thought! in Dallas and Theatre Action Project in Austin, to help them bring art/music/theatre into schools. She asked us to cover her song, “The Place Where the Garage Used to Stand.” We thought it was a great idea, recorded it at the Trout House Studio, and sent it to her producer last week. The album, a collection of Sara’s songs sung by other Texas musicians, will be entitled Best of Times. We’ll let you know when it will be released.

One Million Miles
Some of you may remember our old red Ford pick-up truck. His name is Robert redFord. He was retired from active Trout duty with around 540,000 miles on the odometer. Our ‘new’ van, Stretch, currently has around 413,000 miles on it. If you add those two together, you can see that we’re getting dangerously close to our 1 millionth mile. Of course, we’ve driven rental vans when we fly to an area, but this is measurable proof positive! We’ll be adding a lot of miles as we head into the summer season. Check the calendar for when we’ll be in your area and come on out to a Trout show. Time to relax and enjoy yourselves. As that bus company says, “leave the driving to us”.

Troutfully yours,

Keith and Ezra
