May 2010

Dear e-Fisherfolk:

It may already be Cinco de Mayo or even a bit later by the time you get this newsletter. If you aren’t aware of it, May the 5th is NOT Mexican Independence Day, but commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. We think it’s as good an excuse as any to celebrate by eating as much fine Mexican food you can get your lips on. Both of our gardens are growing salsa ingredients as fast as they can. Tomato, cilantro, and pepper plants are reaching toward the sunlight and pulling water and nutrients from the soil. Last month, we talked about the Idlets’ raised double dug garden rows. The Grimwoods felt a need to try a new and innovative gardening technique, too. It’s known as Ozark Gardening and involves the creative use of dead appliances that would otherwise be decorating the landscape or landfills. Broken dryers, washers, even a fridge or two can be turned on their side and filled with choice potting soil. Voila! Raised beds. Try it! It’s an amazing way to grow plants. And if you have any neighbors, be sure they can see how you’re making use of these items. They will be thrilled with how it adorns your property.

We’ve been spending a lot of our time in the Trout House studio lately, writing and recording songs for our next CD release. It’s going well and we’re having a lot of fun with it. That is another way of saying, “No, we don’t know when it will be released.” We can tell you it is a project aimed more for adults. No, we haven’t started working ‘blue’ or anything. That just means there are love songs and rockers that will be included. One of the new songs on the CD is called Home. Recently, Keith sang a version of this song with the UU choir at his church. He met with Renee Janski, the music director, and she arranged it for choir to sing on Easter Sunday. There is a video recording of this version of the song and you can see and hear it by going to

Speaking of You Tube, you should check out the video of Proper Cup of Coffee on youtube made by the Griffin family. It features some amazing acting and lip syncing. The two boys in this video have bright futures ahead of them. Actually, we’re thinking of hiring them to go out on the road for us when we retire. That’s going to be a long time from now, but maybe by the time these boys are old enough we could sell them a franchise. Heck, maybe you could own a franchise too! Come out to see us at one of our shows. Let’s talk.

Troutfully yours,

Keith and Ezra
