This is our first newsletter of 2009. Hard to imagine that we’re already at the end of the first decade of this century. Wasn’t it just 1985? Anyone remember Y2K? Right now, it’s cold in Arkansas. The weather has been so weird. A couple of days ago it was in the 70’s. Now we’re huddled around the woodstove with a proper cup of coffee in hand! One of the reasons we enjoy living in Arkansas is that there are four seasons every year. We weren’t expecting them all in the same week! Resolutions
New years bring new resolutions. We often resolve to stop doing things that have dragged us down or start doing things that will inspire us. This year, Keith has been inspired to go walking. He read Bill Bryson’s, A Walk In The Woods, a book about hiking the Appalachian Trail and has vowed to get out and do some hiking. No, he doesn’t want to hike the Appalachian Trail, it’s too long. He and his wife, Beth, did hike 5 1/2 miles around Lake Fayetteville on Friday. They hiked another 4 miles in Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday. On Sunday they hiked around 100 miles inside the Bass Pro Shop in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Please pass the ibuprofen! Ezra continues to lose weight and attend Weight Watchers meetings. He’s now lost close to 50 pounds in all. Pass the grilled squash and the blue cheese flavored salad dressing! Big Round World in the news
By now, most of you have heard that our latest CD, Big Round World, has been nominated for a Grammy award. The Grammy award ceremony will be on February 8th. We’re going to be there and we’re going to wear shoes! On December 30th, Keith was on his way over to pick up Ezra to fly to New Jersey for our New Year’s Eve gig. He was listening to NPR and thought to himself, “Hey, I know that song”. Suddenly he was hearing himself singing on the radio. It was 5:50 in the morning and he was out of cell phone range. Who would he call anyway at that time of day? What he was hearing was a lovely piece about Big Round World. Kathy O’Connell, of WXPN’s Kid’s Corner, was interviewed on Morning Edition and she said a lot of nice things about us, calling Big Round World her favorite album of the year. When we got to the airport a little later, we picked up a copy of USA Today and saw our album cover featured with other top children’s CDs of the year. Sales on Amazon.com zoomed from 51,000th rank to 29th in the nation overall and number 2 on their kid’s/family chart. (Nobody beats Elmo!) It was a good day and a great way to finish 2008. Hope you are all having a Happy New Year.
