Dear e-Fisherfolk:

The Idlets are going on a whitewater rafting trip through the Royal Gorge in Colorado. It’s an all day trip and on the surface seems like a nice enough family activity. Ezra was getting his hair cut the other day. Becky, his stylist, was making small talk about the summer and how it was going. The subject of the Royal Gorge raft trip came up. Her eyes widened and she said, “I’m glad I went on it once, but I’ll never do it again!” Ezra was already a little apprehensive about the “adventure” nature of the trip. Becky went on to describe a terrifying ride through class 4 and 5 rapids. Visions of an all day roller-coaster ride are now dancing in Ezra’s overactive imagination. Maybe Becky was pulling Ezra’s leg. Maybe not. The Idlets are going with an experienced group of whitewater rafters and have been assured that it’s “not that scary”. Hopefully this trip will be more relaxing than the zip line trip through the Costa Rican rainforest that he took with his risk-taking family.

On the other hand, Keith will be attending his High-School Super Reunion and is sure that it will be equally as scary as anything Ezra might encounter. He graduated class of 1969. You do the math. Actually, the Grimwoods have had enough excitement for the summer. It was a dark and stormy night… Well actually, it was July 4th at 8 o’clock in the morning. Keith was cooking breakfast at his house. A friend, Nancy Paddock, was at the breakfast table and Beth was in the back room. When BOOM!!!! The fireworks began early. The Grimwood house was struck by lightning. There was a huge yellow glow behind Keith in the kitchen. The phone box was blown 30 feet out in the yard and the bark of a pine tree was stripped in a spiral like a barber’s pole. There was smoke and confusion, but nothing caught fire. It took a couple of weeks to get the air conditioning and electricity restored. Keith is now shopping for a variety of essential and expensive household appliances.

Early promotional copies of Big Round World (our new CD) have arrived at the Trout House. They look and sound great! We are very proud of this new project. It’s our first full-length, self-produced, Trout House production. It includes 14 all new original songs, many of which we are playing at our live shows around the country. Sirius satellite radio recently had us in their studios for a performance. In August, we will be visiting XM satellite radio studios for a concert performance. After an appearance at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, we’ll be visiting with the amazing and legendary Kathy O’Connell of Kid’s Corner on WXPN 88.5 radio in Philadelphia. The official release date for Big Round World is September 9th. We can hardly wait!

If you are a long time Trout newsletter reader, you may remember that Keith has had a previous close encounter with lightning. It hit his house, came through his computer as he clicked on the mouse, and knocked him across the room. (He’s still disappointed that he’s not developed super powers) We’ve heard it said that once you’ve been struck by lightning the odds of being struck again increase. We’re hoping that the Grammys work the same way. We’ve gotten 3 nominations already and are hoping our new CD is struck by another nomination! If it starts raining, you can bet that Ezra will be far, far away from Keith! But if we’re chosen to go to the Grammys, we’ll be standing right next to each other.

Troutfully yours,
Keith and Ezra
