August 1999

Dear e-Fisherfolk:

We’re back! Trout Fishing in America has been on vacation. We’ve logged so many frequent flyer miles this year that we were able to take our families out of the country for a holiday at the airlines expense! The Grimwoods went to Manitoba Canada to visit family and enjoy the cool weather. Their luggage went somewhere else. The Idlets went to Scotland to visit family and enjoy the cool weather. Good times were had. Pictures were taken. Food was consumed. Keith brought back a particularly good recipe for grilling corn in the shucks. Ezra brought back a rock. It was a Scottish rock, however. We are in the final stages of completing our next album. It will be called Closer To The Truth. Writing and recording this album was kind of like making a quilt. We took pieces of our lives and the lives of the people around us and stitched them together to create a musical quilt. We also had the chance to record with some of our heroes as well. Jerry Douglas, Vassar Clements, Tim O’Brien, Mickey Raphael and Anders Osborne make appearances. The CD is slated for a late October release when the air will be crisp and quilts will be coming out.

It’s hard to think about crisp air and quilts right now. It’s hot and dry. Our gardens are crying and the dirt is turning to dust. The Idlets are on water rationing. People all over the country are experiencing the heat of this summer. We hope that you are all doing well through this and staying as cool as possible. If you’re feeling really hot, drink lots of water and jump in a cool tub. Take a shower. Come out to a Trout show. Most of the places we play have air-conditioning!

Troutfully yours,
Keith and Ezra
